Hawks win Russellers Tournament, Sunday 15th June 2008

The Hawks made the early trip to Chistlehurst on Sunday looking for their first tournament win of the summer after four runners-up spots. With 14 teams competing it was going to be tough. A bright start against Bruin Tigers ended goalless but then the Hawks went on a tremendous winning run all the way to the final. Six straight wins followed without conceding a single goal, with notable wins especially against the strong Parkwood team, who had beaten us on penalties in the final of their own tournament a few week previously. The semi final was a very tight match against Royal Falcons but a great Jamie goal saw the Hawks into the final again. The final was against Bruin Lions who had beaten Bruin Tigers in their semi. The game was end to end with both teams going very close and only three great saves from Rhys kept the scores level. So it was to be penalties once more! First up was Bruin but Rhys pulled of a great save and when Hong crashed his penalty off the post we were nearly there. Cool, perfect penalties from Owen and Spencer followed and the Hawks were Champions. A great Day for all the boys and a great present for all the dads on Fathers Day. It was also a great way to sign off for Rhys and Hong playing their last games for the Hawks before they going Crystal Palace and Charlton Academy respectively - good luck boys! Squad: Rhys, Ed, Matias, Sydney, Mehmet, Spencer, Owen, Jamie, Aaron, Hong. Results: Bruin Tigers 0-0, Russellers 3-0 (Jamie, Own, Syd), Parkwood 1-0 (Aaron), Sundridge Lions 3-0 (Aaron 2, Syd), Welling Wanderers 3-0 (Aaron, Spencer, Mehmet), Gridlokaz 1-0 (Jamie), SF Royal Falcons 1-0 (Jamie), Final Bruin Lions 0-0.

Hawks Summer Tournaments Summer 2008

SCI Tournament, Great Yarmouth. A great weekend saw the Hawks play 6 games over two days. The Hawks won 3, drew 2 and only lost one to the eventually winners Beacons. The boys received their runners up trophies from former Chelsea and Liverpool star Nigel Spackman to round off a great weekend.

Wickham Wanderers Tournament. The Hawks paid the price of a slow start losing their first two games but came back strong to draw the next and win their last two, but it was to late to advance to the knock out stages. Croydon 0-1, Junior Sports 1-2, Darrent River 1-1, Orpington Rovers 4-0, Wickham Wanderers 2-0.

Coney Hall Tournament. A long day and the Hawks eventually made their way to the final with some fine football only to lose out to a strong Croydon Juniors in the final. Orpington 3-1 (Arron, Hong, owen), Darwin 2-0 (Aaron 2), Wickham Wanderers A 1-0 (Aaron), Coney Hall A 4-0 (Spencer 2, Owen, Jamie), Barnet Wood 1-0, Croydon Jnr 1-3.

Parkwood Tournament. Once again the boys did terrifically well and reached the final only to come up just short again, this time only by a penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw against the hosts. Are the Hawks Chelsea in disguise! Crayford Arrows 3-0 (Jamie, Hong, Aaron), Bruin Lions 0-1, Parkwood Tigers 4-0 (Spencer 2, Jamie 2), Junior Reds 2-0 (Owen, Spencer), Darrent River 2-1 (Owen, Spencer + Rhys penalty save!), Parkwood Rangers A 0-0 (lost 3-2 on penalties, Spencer, Aaron)

London Marathon Playing Fields Tornament. The Hawks were a very late entry to the LMPF Tournament in Greenwich on Saturday. The Hawks customary slow start saw them drew 0-0 in their first game only to storm to a 9-0 win in their next helping the to win their group in the process. The Quarter Final against Junior Reds was decided by a penalty shoot-out and thanks to perfect penalties from Hong, Spencer, Matias and Owen and two fine saves from Rhys we actually won!! Unfortunately the semi-final proved to be one game to far resulting in a 3-0 loss to Welling United. Meridian Utd 0-0, Fleetdown Blue 9-0 (Owen 3, Spencer 2, Jamie 2, Hong, Matias), Long Lane Tigers 1-1 (Spencer), Russellers 3-1 (Jamie 2, Owen), Junior Reds 1-1 - won 4-2 pens (Jamie), Welling Utd 0-3.

Latest Results: Genesis 1 Hawks 6

The Hawks finished the season in style as they played some of their best passing football of the year. The first half was dominated by the Hawks only to see themselves go a goal down on the break after some wasteful Hawks finishing. The Hawks struck back just before the break to send the sides in level at 1-1. The Hawks continued to dominate in the second half and also started to find the back of the net too to race home 6-1 winners. Team – Rhys, Ed, Hong, Mehmet, Spencer (3), Aaron (1), Owen (1), Jamie (1)
